Stožice defeated for the first time this season

After two home victories in Stožice Arena and a draw in Tivoli Hall, the Krim Mercator handball players had to concede to French Metz. The guests took the reins of the game right from the start and held them until the end. The score was 22:28.

It started similarly to the away game against Rapid Bucharest. The rivals took the lead. This time by 4:0, but the #KrimovaDruzina knows no surrender. Captain Barbara Lazović scored for the first time in the seventh minute of the match at Stožice Arena, and a minute later for the second time. Barbara Arenhart in goal kept her team in touch with the visitors. With five saves in the opening 12 minutes.

But then Emmanuel Mayonnadas‘ team stepped on the gas and took a 10:5 lead. The Krim Mercator did not and could not connect. After 30 minutes of play, they were four goals behind (10:14).

And there is no glass in the sequel. Even after Betchaidelle Ngombele got a chance to play and practically single-handedly chased down her rivals with a string of four goals. But it wasn’t enough to turn the tide and get two more points in front of the home fans. The visitors celebrated with a final score of 22:28.

Next Sunday, 19 November, at 16:00, the Ljubljana team will face the return leg in the north-east of France. The Krim family will return to their home floor next calendar year. Tickets for all remaining home games of the EHF Champions League group stage will go on sale soon on mojekarte.si.

Dragan Adžić, head coach of Krim Mercator: »First of all, a big thank you to the audience who supported us in such large numbers. I believe that we will bring them better performances in the future. It is always challenging to play against Metz, against such a quality team. However, I am proud of our team for fighting until the end despite all the injuries.«

Tjaša Stanko, player of Krim Mercator: »The game was as challenging as we expected. We knew that Metz Handball is a great team, but unfortunately we were not able to achieve what we set out to do. It’s hard to bounce back from a 4-0 defeat. Our opponents played quite predictably, but our defence was not at the right level.«
