Despite the cold Scandinavian temperatures, the Krim players entered the game warmed up to the right working temperature. Tatjana Brnović broke the thin layer of ice with the first goal. Realizing that only two points mattered this time, the Tigers powered through the game! The hosts only tasted a lead in the third minute when the scoreboard showed 2:1, but otherwise, the Ljubljana team controlled the game.
Both wingers were especially effective this time. Jovanka Radičević and Tamara Mavsar each scored three goals in the first half, and Tamara Horaček was also in great form. With goals from various positions on the court, the Krim players had already secured a comfortable six-goal lead by the 14th minute, which they held onto until the end of the first half. Well, almost. After 30 minutes, the score was 14:19 in favor of the players in black.
In the second half, the home team came out more determined. They closed the gap to three goals, and at 19:21, even narrowed it to two, forcing Krim’s head coach to call a timeout. But it didn’t help. The players in yellow pulled within a single goal.
The moment the scales tipped back in favor of the visiting team can be credited to captain Ana Gros. Before the final quarter, she scored from a very difficult position. Twice more, Radičević found the net – once from open play and then from the seven-meter line. A quick counterattack followed, with Mavsar scoring, and the lead grew to +4.
But that wasn’t enough. The Danes managed to close the gap in the final minutes, and Alberte Kielstrup Madsen took advantage of the last second, scoring to equalize at 30:30. The points were shared. With a bitter aftertaste, the Tigers will return home after a great first half, where a new victory was within reach.
Ambrosio Martin Cedres, head coach of Krim Mercator: »I think we played the game seriously. Against a great Danish team. We are a bit disappointed because we were leading for most of the game. But congratulations to our opponents, who fought until the end. I can see a big step forward in our team. Despite everything, we were dominant.«
Tamara Mavsar, player of Krim Mercator: »We knew what to expect from our competitors. That it would be challenging. But, after all, we have a lot of experience, so we should keep the advantage until the end. We need to improve on that. We know that the match against Podravka is very important for us and we need to win it to finish fourth in the group.«
